Surgery is advised after confirmed histopathology report is available. It might take 2- 3 days after the biopsy is taken for histopathology examination. These days should be utilized for preparing patient optimally for surgery. Focus is given to evaluation of  the cardiorespiratory status of the patient. with ECG, Chest Xray. If any abnormailty is noted , patient may be subjected to Echocardiography. Blood and urine examination may help to know basic fitness level, renal fuction abnormaily, focus of infectionor undetected diabetes mellitus status. Patient of all ages should start doing vigourous Breathing exercises. Blood group assessment helps getting proper blood for transfusion in case it is needed. Patient may receive preoperative chemotherapy. Cancer patients are managed by team of doctors which include Surgeon , Medical Oncologist, Pathologist, Physician, Anesthetist, Physiotherapist and Oncopsychologist.

Colonic surgeries need special attention to bowel preparation. Bowel preparation though is not a pleasant memory for patient is a essential lifesaving part of preoperative work up especially for patients with loaded colons.
